Origin

The mission for The Grief Center, LLC begins with a 12 year old girl from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania raised by two loving parents; One day over 17 years ago, her father died of a massive heart attack while driving minutes from their home. This 12 year old now knew first hand the bitter reality of loosing a loved one and even more so the trauma of the sudden death of a parent. This 12 year old girl began to struggle both academically and emotionally as she navigated coping with the emotional pain that accompanies grief. She attended therapy and support groups and quickly realized her grief experience was unique and often times felt unrelatable by her peers who were of different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. As she became a young adult, she dedicated her spare time to volunteering with grief support groups for children, youth and adults throughout Michigan. She went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Family Community Services from Michigan State University later attending Spring Arbor University and earning her Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and specializing in Grief Therapy. As you may have guessed by now the 12 year old girl from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the Founder & Clinical Director, Cutrina Claxton, LPC.

The Grief Center LLC,  views of compassionate, culturally competent, personalized and expert support comes from a personal conviction of our Founder to fulfill what she is called to do. The Grief Center, LLC provides a safe non-judgemental space where clients can process their emotions, develop health coping strategies, and begin to heal at their own pace. The Grief Center, LLC provides therapeutic care deeply rooted in empathy, professionalism, and evidence based techniques designed to support meaningful progress.
